This new program is in response to requests by parents for the league to provide coaching for younger players during Spring Soccer. It is also builds on the success of the Jr. Vaqueros program during the summer/fall season. The focus is on fun, and follows the philosophy that the game is more fun the better you know how to play it.
Skill Development Spring Academy players will be coached by a member of the Vaqueros professional coaching staff . In order to keep the ratio of players to coaches low, high school aged players will assist the coach. This will allow all activities to occur in small groups with supervision, and lots of opportunities to touch the ball. The weekly sessions will include a professionally designed practice followed by games in the Spring Soccer format.
Games
There will be no set teams for the Spring Academy. The players will be divided into teams each week for games, allowing fun and skills to be the focus rather than league standings. The coach will make adjustments to create the best environment possible each week. This will eliminate problems with uneven distribution of talent, which is difficult to prevent in small team settings. The session (practice and game combined) will last approximately 90 minutes.
